How Age Points Work in CRS

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) awards points based on age as part of the Core/Human Capital Factors. Age is one of the four main factors alongside education, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience.

Without Spouse

  • Maximum: 110 points (ages 20-29)
  • Points decrease after age 29
  • 0 points at age 17 or younger, and 45 or older

With Spouse

  • Maximum: 100 points (ages 20-29)
  • Points decrease after age 29
  • 0 points at age 17 or younger, and 45 or older

The age factor rewards younger applicants who have more potential working years ahead. However, age is just one component of the CRS score. Even if you lose points due to age, you can compensate with stronger language skills, higher education, or more work experience.

Tips to Compensate for Age Points

Higher IELTS/CELPIP scores can add up to 136 points (single) or 128 points (married)

A Master's degree earns 135 points (single), a PhD earns 150 points

Gain Canadian Experience

5+ years of Canadian work experience adds up to 80 points (single)

Provincial Nomination

A PNP nomination adds 600 additional points to your CRS score
